Drawing from his vast performing and playing experience, Jon's teaching primarily focuses on his passion for the Trombone as a versatile instrument in a wide range of genres dating from the Renaissance period right up to today's contemporary commercial music.
Happy teaching students of all ages and abilities Jon believes in ensuring that the basic fundamental techniques are firmly in place from the beginning in order to sustain and aid development. For more experienced students Jon is happy to 'tailor fit' a course of lessons in order to work towards a specific goal whether focusing on specific technique or musical goals.
While not a essential part of the learning process, Jon is happy for students to work towards graded music exams and is proud to maintain a 100% pass rate.
Jon runs a private teaching practice based in the North Somerset area though he is selective of the students he takes on in order to allow time for performing - something which remains an important factor in Jon's professional career.
Since 2013 Jon has been pleased to be associated with Paul Archibald’s ‘English Brass Academy’ as a Trombone and ensemble coach.
Jon is also sought after as an ensemble coach and is happy to visit ensembles regularly or on an ad-hoc basis in order to offer guidance and advice as needed.
